Rajive Ganguli, Ph.D., P.E (AK)

is a founding principal at Opti-mine. A registered underground coal mine foreman in the state of Alabama, he is currently the Malcom McKinnon Professor of Mining Engineering at the University of Utah. Additionally, he is on the Editorial Board of Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration Journal, the flagship journal of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration, Inc.


Being an academic and a consultant, he has been involved in cutting edge research as well as basic mining engineering. He has been recognized by his peers for his various achievements, including:

  •  Alaska Innovator's Hall of Fame (2017)
  • A Rock star of Alaska mining (2014), by Alaska Miners Association
  • Flame Safety Lamp award (2005) awarded to an underground coal mine foreman), State of Alabama
  • Robert Peele Award (2004) for a control algorithm from Soc. Min. Met. Exp., Inc
  • Future Leader of the Mining Industry (2000) from Soc. Min. Met. Exp., Inc

He has also published in numerous journals. His work has led to media interest from Bloomberg, mining.com magazine, Chinese television etc.


Tammi Ganguli

is a founding principal at Opti-mine. She is a trained applications programmer, having worked before as a database specialist for the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
